Stockport Harriers Club Championships 2014

Congratulations to all the children who took part in our Club Championships last Sunday. There were many tremendous results in a variety of events. It is great to see a multi-event group achieving good results across run, jump and throw events. They are, in my opinion, greater achievements, than if a child is specialising in any one event, from an early age. We spread our Training time and effort over 8 events to ensure correct and appropriate young athlete development.

There were three of our group competing for the first time in Track & Field Competition. Jack, Hannah and Jonah all did very well considering it will all have been new to them. Being comfortable competing in a multitude of events from an early age is critical to our multi-event philosophy and young athlete development. I am therefore very pleased that we had 10 young athletes competing in the U9 & U11 Quadrathlons. The performances to be highlighted from these competitions are as follows:

Sophia – Won the U11 Girls Quadrathlon (1^st 75m, 2^nd Vortex, 2^nd Long Jump).

Ella – Third in the U11 Girls Quadrathlon (1^st Vortex).

Jonah – U11 Boys Quadrathlon (2^nd 75m, 3^rd 600m).

Frank - U11 Boys Quadrathlon (2^nd Long Jump)

There were many good performances from our U13 and U15 athletes who picked up numerous PBs & medals in different events. On this occasion, I am going to highlight:

The Boys U13 Javelin result, where we had a clean sweep of the medals. Harry won the competition with an excellent throw of 20.97m followed by William with a throw of 19.60m. Both these young athletes are in the younger year of the U13 age group and yet they now have UK rankings in this event (Harry 39^th and William 41^st)!

and

The Boys U13 Long Jump result where Dom,  who had come 3^rd in the Javelin, finished second with a PB jump of 3.86m followed by William in third with a PB jump of 3.60m.

Well done, once again, to all the athletes from our group who competed.
